About Scratch

Scratch is a programming language developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab, with financial support from the National Science Foundation, Microsoft, Intel Foundation, Nokia, Iomega and MIT Media Lab research consortia. The name Scratch comes from the scratching technique used by hip-hop disc jockeys, who spin vinyl records back and forth with their hands to mix music clips together in creative ways. Programmers can also do something similar with Scratch -- mixing different types of media clips (graphics, photos, music, sounds) in creative ways.

Scratch is particularly good for kids and beginners to learn programming. Coding in Scratch is much easier than in traditional programming languages. To create a script, you simply snap together graphical blocks, much like LEGO bricks or puzzle pieces. Scratch makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art -- and share your creations on the web (through the official Scratch website or social website such as Facebook).

This is my website for teaching Scratch programming to my students. Teaching materials will be continuously added to this website when they are ready.
